Competitor Analysis

Research competitor positioning, content, and SEO to identify differentiation opportunities.

A real workflow from the Magister template catalog — the same steps a dedicated agent executes for your brand, shown in full before you run anything.

What you provide

The steps, in full

  1. 1

Research each competitor's positioning and messaging

Visit each URL in competitor urls and capture: their headline value proposition, primary target audience, key differentiators claimed, pricing model (if public), and the tone of their brand voice. Also visit your url to document the same for comparison. Summarise each brand in 2–3 sentences.

  2. 2

Analyse their content strategy and cadence

For each competitor, check their blog, resource centre, and social profiles. Note content types (blog posts, case studies, whitepapers, videos), estimated publishing frequency, and the topics they consistently cover. Identify any content series, thought leadership angles, or formats they use that are working particularly well based on engagement signals.

  3. 3

    Identify feature and pricing gaps

Compare the product feature sets and pricing tiers across competitors and your url. Map a side-by-side matrix of key features and note where each competitor has a clear advantage or gap. If pricing is visible, identify any anchoring strategies, free tiers, or trial mechanics that stand out as effective.

  4. 4

Map their SEO and keyword strategy

Search for each competitor's top organic keyword themes using publicly visible data (e.g. their sitemap, blog category structure, or visible meta titles). Identify the keyword clusters they are targeting, whether they focus on high-volume or long-tail terms, and any topic areas where they rank that your url currently does not.

  5. 5

    Summarise opportunities and differentiation angles

Write a strategic summary with three sections: (1) Where competitors are strong and we should not fight head-on. (2) Content and SEO gaps we can exploit within 90 days. (3) Messaging and positioning angles that are underused in the market and that your url is uniquely positioned to own. Prioritise recommendations by estimated impact.

  6. 6

    Emit finding

Consolidate the completed work into one complete markdown report and record the durable finding with the native magister_submit_workflow_completion tool. The report file must contain the full report content — never a placeholder.

What it won't do without you

Magister workflows draft and prepare autonomously, but anything externally visible — publishing a page, sending an email, changing a campaign — waits for your approval. You can run this template once, or schedule it and review the results as they land.
